THE CAT WITH TOO MANY BEDS

There once was a cat

With too many beds.

Just too many places

To rest his head.

Large and medium

and extra small.

Firm and fluffy

He had them all.

One made of silk

With ribbons and bows.

And lines of small beads

In cute, little rows.

A grand wooden one

With arches and carvings.

And crystal food bowls

To keep him from starving.

An ornate, curvy one

Made from twisted, black iron

That made him feel like he was

A strong, mighty lion.

By the back patio window

Was a comfy grey chaise.

Where he watched all the birds

On bright sunny days.

A soft, puffy round bed

In front of the fire

Was a great place for stretching

And relaxing when tired.

Upstairs in a room

Was one of his towers,

Where he looked down at the yard

At the trees and the flowers.

There was also a bed

That looked like a shark.

With great big white teeth,

But the mouth was too dark!

On one wall in the house

Were a bunch of weird pods

Shaped like spaceship bubbles.

They were really quite odd.

There’s a fine patchwork bed

Made of all kinds of leathers.

Stuffed right to the brim

With all kinds of feathers.

And that really odd one

That was left there by Santa.

It was long. It was yellow.

It was a great, big banana.

In the basement was one

That was shaped like a coffin.

He didn’t like that one.

And didn’t sleep in it often.

At the back of the house

In the sunny solarium

A bed shaped like a fish

Sat beneath the aquarium.

In the den was a bed

That was more of a teepee.

With sides that looked like

It was made from a beech tree.

There was even a bed

That looked like an old slipper.

With rips and tears

And a big, broken zipper.

In the kitchen was a bed

Like a big jar of honey.

Where he would buzz, not purr…

Just because it was funny.

Behind the glass panels

Of the dining room door

Was an upside-down stool

Where he would usually snore.

Under the covers

Was a favourite spot.

Although not one of his beds,

He still liked it a lot.

But, his favourite bed…

Once held clothing and socks.

And isn’t really a bed…

It’s a cardboard box!
